Celebrating the cuisine and culture of Newfoundland & Labrador, Bacalao offers comfortable fine dining in a turn of the century home with a passionate focus on local seafood, game, produce and spirits.
Newfoundland shares its culinary history of enjoying salt cod with many other cultures. Bacalao (bak-al-OW) is the word used for salt cod (in various spellings and pronunciations) throughout the Mediterranean. The versatility and much-beloved nature of this time-honoured staple ingredient is the inspiration for our name and exemplifies our innovative interpretation of Newfoundland cuisine.
We attended Bacalao this afternoon for brunch. The Nouvelle Newfoundland Cuisine was exceptional, the service was superior and professional. It is impressive to have traditional Newfoundland food with exotic twists in a modern bistro style resto. One of the best experiences in Newfoundland without question. I will recommend it to anyone visiting the province.
I brought a tour of 45 people to the Bacalao today for lunch. It was a dining experience all tourists should enjoy. The meal and service was as good as it gets. Thank you.

An incredible experience and best 90th birthday party I could have imagined. Food was delicious, Cod was melt-in-your mouth spectacular. Dessert was divine. And the service was far above and beyond!

Your restaurant is amazing! It was recommended to us by my sister who lives in St. John’s, so when my husband and I visited there last week, eight of us went there for Sunday Brunch. We loved the food. Awesome presentation. Wonderful service. The owners and staff were really friendly and made us feel welcome. We plan to go there for dinner next time!

Great food, absolutely wonderful place to dine. We’re both Nflder’s, enjoyed being home dining at a real downhome restaurant. Great service…great people…what can we say! We spoke to Mike briefly but we had no idea that the other part of the duo was Andrea Maunder. I worked with your Dad for many years at CJON/Q-RADIO and as a matter of fact he was the master of ceremonies at our wedding 29 yrs ago this month. Please say hello to him for us My maiden name was (Sullivan).

What a great restaurant you have!
I rate it a 10++++ NO questions asked!
And, wonderful owners, and staff. You could NOT ask for better.
Word of mouth is the best advertising, and I have spread the word.
Please keep up the great work. You are, and will continue to be, a great success.
My sister, who was there during Christmas, and New Years’ Eve, enjoyed every minute.
She said it was better then any New Years’ Eve party, she has ever been to.
She will spread the word to her friends in New Brunswick.

Our meal here was as perfect as I thought it would be. The jiggs dinner cabbage rolls and the moose served in a burgundy pinot noir sauce with blueberries and bacon were absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere, service and food was perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant! Our server was Tracy and she was so wonderful! Thanks!
